opec deal

OPEC deal

A surprise deal by major oil producers to cut output is unlikely to make a big difference to the crazy low gas prices consumers have been enjoying at the pump. Oil prices jumped more than 5% after OPEC announced the proposed cut, but shed some of those gains later.

This is not a game-changer for the oil markets said Julian Jessop, chief global economist at Capital Economics. The agreed cut is small and from an already high level of production.  The deal represents a U-turn by Saudi Arabia, which had led OPEC on a production binge to force higher cost competitors out of the market. It’s also a sign that the Saudis can work with arch rival Iran, even if they were forced to compromise by the pain of very low prices. In the recent past, we had two of our founder members who were at war. OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo told CNNMoney. I was really impressed with the way they just focused on the fundamentals and came to this historic decision. Despite the powerful symbolism of the agreement, here are the key reasons why little is likely to change soon:

opec deal
There’s already way too much oil

Oil prices collapsed over the past two years because the world has far more oil than it can consume. The International Energy Agency said this month that supply will outstrip demand well into next year.  Oil supplies and inventories remain high. And the IEA warned that despite low prices, demand is slowing in countries that were previously driving the market, such as India and China.Demand needs to gradually increase to naturally rebalance the market said Spencer Welch, an oil analyst at IHS Markit.

The OPEC deal includes Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil producer that had previously refused to cut back. But it won’t rein in some of the other top crude exporters.Iran, which recently emerged from sanctions, will be allowed to raise production further. Nigeria and Libya, which have had some of their oil facilities damaged by terrorist attacks, are also being given room to pump more.  And then there’s the U.S. and Russia, which are outside the cartel.

This deal falls well short of the earlier hopes of a coordinated plan with major non-OPEC producers, especially Russia Jessop said.Indeed, the main impact may simply be to encourage another burst of drilling in the U.S. shale industry, leaving the overall balance in the global market little changed.Russia has said previously, though, that it could join any deal reached by OPEC.

opec deal
The deal may not be respected

The deal struck in Algiers is only preliminary, and uncertainty remains over whether it will be ratified at OPEC’s next formal meeting in November, according to analysts at Goldman Sachs. What’s more, the countries who agreed to an overall cut of as much as 900,000 barrels per day may not uphold their end of the bargain. It is one thing to state a maximum number, it is a whole different ball game to get agreement on how this is divided between the OPEC countries and then for each to stick to it said Welch. This is a brave strategy by OPEC to make this statement, they are risking credibility by being this open, so presumably they must be confident they can deliver. But cartel members also have a tendency to overshoot production quotas, the Goldman analysts said, adding further doubt over how much output might actually fall.

Oil prices are still really, really low

The price of oil jumped after the deal was announced, but only to a high of around $47.50 per barrel. That’s not even the highest price so far this year — and it’s still way below the $100-plus range seen in previous years. So while consumers may see a small uptick in gas prices at the pump as a result of the deal, it’s unlikely to lead to a big spike in the medium term, according to Spencer.  Crude prices have been stuck in a range of $40-$50 since April. Even if oil prices recover further to around $60 next year, as we expect, consumers should still be better off said Jessop.

opec deal

He suggested that the world may be heading for a period of goldilocks oil prices: low enough to provide a sizeable boost to spending on other goods and services, but high enough to keep the major producers afloat.

Has NASA changed the zodiac?

Has NASA changed the zodiac?

Over the weekend I started seeing links to articles claiming that NASA has changed the signs of the zodiac. I knew immediately what this was about, even as I was scratching my head about a) how this is news, and b) how short people’s memories are. I found a few articles about this NASA news here and there; there’s one on Yahoo that has the headlne Your Astrological Sign Just Changed, Thanks To NASA.

Has NASA changed the zodiac?

We don’t want to be dramatic, but NASA just ruined our lives. For the first time in 3,000 years, they’ve decided to update the astrological signs. This means that the majority of us are about to experience a total identity crisis. Apparently, these changes are due to the fact that the constellations are not in the same position in the sky that they once were, and the star signs are about a month off now, as a result. To further confuse things, there is now a new, 13th sign, called Ophiuchus, which those born between November 29 and December 17 are lucky enough to have to learn to pronounce.Cripes. No, no, and no. First off, NASA did not update the astrological signs. Second, the constellations haven’t changed. And third, Ophiuchus is an ancient constellation, identified by the Greeks thousands of years ago.So what’s the deal? Well, before we even get started, keep this in mind: astrology isn’t science; it’s nonsense. It’s been tested 10 ways to Sunday and every time it fails. Even astrologers have come up with tests for it, and it has failed those. Astrology doesn’t work.

Has NASA changed the zodiac?
Despite that, lots of people believe in it. That’s why I wrote a lengthy and detailed debunking of astrology. Zodiacal confusion. So what’s the deal with this recent silliness? It has to do with the zodiac. As I wrote in an article on the zodiac: The planets, including the Earth, orbit the Sun on pretty much the same plane. From the Earth, it looks like the Sun moves around us once per year. The path it takes across the sky is the same year after year, and we call this the ecliptic. The planets all move across the sky in that same path, too.So, like clockwork, the Sun passes into the same constellations at a certain time every year. You know the names of these constellations: Sagittarius, Libra, Scorpius, Aries, Gemini… the constellation of the zodiac, or, if you prefer, the zodiacal constellations. These 12 zodiacal constellations have been recognised in one way or another around the world, though most countries (and the International Astronomical Union) have adopted a modified version of them known to the ancient Babylonians and Greeks. The thing is, there are more than 12 constellations the sun can pass through. Some are smaller, or have fainter stars, so they get ignored. The biggest is Ophiuchus, the serpent-bearer, which is a huge constellation taking up quite a bit of celestial real estate, and in fact the sun spends more time in Ophiuchus than Scorpius. Scorpius has brighter stars and an obvious scorpion-like shape, so it gets better press. So no, NASA didn’t add in Ophiuchus or change the zodiac or anything like that. Ophiuchus has been around this whole time, but has been ignored by astrologers. They’re the ones who should take the blame for all this, not actual scientists who don’t even think astrology is worth wrapping fish in anyway. Worse, there aren’t really 13 zodiacal constellations. By some counts, there are as many as 21. Not only that, but Earth wobbles like a top, very slowly, and over centuries that changes the dates the sun is in a given constellation. If you were born in late March in ancient Greece, you would have been an Aries. Today, you’d be a Pisces.Given that astrology is based on all this, shouldn’t astrologers at least get their basic facts straight before trying to influence your life?

Has NASA changed the zodiac?

Not news

Finally, why is this suddenly news? This is the final irony here. This new foofaraw got started, apparently, due to an article on a NASA site for kids called SpacePlace. I like this site a lot and refer quite a few parents and teachers to it. It has simple explanations written at a level for children to understand, and it’s fun and accurate. The SpacePlace article, Constellations and the Calendar, has been around a while but was updated in January 2016, which may have caught some astrology believer’s eye. The article – well worth your time to read – talks about how the zodiac constellations are defined, and how, over time, they’ve changed. Apparently, someone didn’t read it very carefully, or didn’t understand it, and wrote that NASA had changed the zodiac. But this isn’t even the first time this sort of thing has happened. Almost exactly the same story bubbled up in 2011.

You can’t keep a good piece of pseudoscience down. It’s like a zombie, always rising again.
You know what also rises? The sun. And when it does, it’ll be because Earth is spinning, and orbiting it, and we’ll see the stars and planets and moons doing their thing. And we’ll study them with science and learn their ways, and if people who believe in astrology want to keep looking to the past, well, let ’em. As long as they promise to remember it.

Prohibited Drug List : 2017

Prohibited Drug List : 2017

The World Anti-Doping Agency has released its 2017 list of prohibited substances for athletes, adding a drug used for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and eating disorders to its catalog of banned stimulants.

Prohibited Drug List : 2017
The substance, known chemically as lisdexamfetamine, is part of a family of drugs that stimulate the central nervous system. Other substances used to treat ADHD, including methylphenidate, were already on WADA’s prohibited list as specified stimulants, meaning they can’t be used by athletes without a prior therapeutic use exemption.Nicomorphine, an opioid analgesic drug available in parts of Europe and which is converted to morphine following administration, was added to the list of banned narcotics. WADA noted in the list it released early Friday that it was putting Codeine on its monitoring program so that researchers could establish patterns of use for possible performance-enhancement.
All athletes around the world are held to these standards and there can be no tolerance for people who intentionally break the rules,” WADA President Craig Reedie said in a statement. “Updated annually, the list is released three months ahead of taking effect so that all stakeholders – in particular athletes and their entourage _ have ample time to familiarize themselves with the list and its modifications. The most-discussed addition in 2016 remained on the prohibited substance list for 2017.

Prohibited Drug List : 2017
Meldonium was added to the list from last Jan. 1 and resulted in a two-year ban for Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, who was among hundreds of athletes who tested positive at the start of the year in results that forced WADA to conduct more research on the substance and extend “no fault findings” to athletes who tested positive for low concentrations of the drug.Sharapova tested positive for the endurance-boosting drug at the Australian Open in Melbourne in January and is appealing her ban.

The Latvian-made drug was used in parts of eastern Europe to treat heart conditions but was not approved for use in the United States. It increases blood flow, which improves exercise capacity by carrying more oxygen to the muscles. There is significant debate among doping experts over whether meldonium, also known as mildronate, actually enhances performance.

WADA director general Olivier Niggli said the latest list was published after nine months of reviews.

Prohibited Drug List : 2017
Experts examine such sources as: scientific and medical research; trends; and, intelligence gathered from law enforcement and pharmaceutical companies in order to stay ahead of those that wish to cheat,” Niggli said. “It is vital that all athletes take the necessary time to consult the list; and that they contact their respective anti-doping organizations if they have any doubts as to the status of a substance or method.
The List’s annual revision process is led by WADA, beginning with an initial meeting in January and concluding with the publication of the List by 1 October. This is an extensive nine-month consultation process which includes gathering information, circulating a draft list, stakeholder submissions, committee recommendations and the approval of the List by WADA’s Executive Committee during its September meeting.

It should be noted that, for athletes who have a legitimate medical reason for using a prohibited substance or method that is on the List, they can be accommodated via the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE), which has overwhelming acceptance from athletes, physicians and anti-doping stakeholders worldwide.

Robotics or Artificial Intelligence

Robotics or Artificial Intelligence

Robotics is that the branch of discipline, technology and discipline that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots,as well as laptop computer systems for his or her management, sensory feedback, and information method. These technologies address automatic machines which can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or work humans in look, behaviour, and or information. many of today’s robots ar galvanized naturally, tributary to the sphere of bio-inspired computing. The idea of constructing machines which can operate autonomously dates back to classical times, but analysis into the usefulness and potential uses of robots did not grow significantly until the 20 th century. Throughout history, it has been ofttimes assumed that robots will in some such-and-such time within the future be able to mimic human behavior associated manage tasks in an extremely human-like fashion. Today, computing may well be a rapidly growing field, as technological advances continue; researching, designing, and building new robots serve various smart functions, whether or not or not domestically, commercially, or militarily. many robots ar built to do to to jobs that ar risky to people like termination bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins, and exploring mines and shipwrecks. computing is to boot used in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as a instrumentality.

Robotics or Artificial Intelligence

Etymology
The word computing was derived from the word automaton, that was introduced to the overall public by Czech author Karel Capek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots), that was written in 1920.The word automaton comes from the Slavic word robota, which means labour. The play begins in associate extremely plant that produces artificial people said as robots, creatures WHO is mistaken for humans – really just like the stylish ideas of androids. Karel Capek himself did not coin the word. He wrote a quick letter in connectedness associate etymology inside the English language lexicon throughout that he named his brother Josef Capek as its actual mastermind.According to the English language lexicon, the word computing was first used in print by Asimov, in his phantasy story “Liar!”, written in would possibly 1941 in Astounding phantasy. author was unaware that he was coining the term; since the science and technology of electrical devices is physics, he assumed computing already mentioned the science and technology of robots. in an exceedingly range of Asimov’s totally different works, he states that the first use of the word computing was in his story Runaround . However, the initial publication of Liar! predates that of Runaround by ten months, that the previous is sometimes cited as a result of the word’s origin.

Robotics or Artificial Intelligence
History of computing
In 1942 the phantasy author Asimov created his three Laws of computing. In 1948 scientist developed the principles of data process, the premise of smart computing. completely autonomous robots exclusively appeared inside the 1/2 the 20 th century. the first digitally operated and programmable automaton, the Unimate, was place in in 1961 to lift hot things of metal from a die casting machine and stack them. industrial and industrial robots ar widespread of late and accustomed perform jobs extra cheaply, extra accurately and extra dependably, than humans. ar} extensively utilised in some jobs that are too dirty, dangerous, or boring to be applicable for humans. Robots ar wide used in manufacturing, assembly, packing and packaging, transport, earth and space exploration, surgery, weaponry, laboratory analysis, safety, and conjointly the assembly of purchaser and industrial product.

Robotic aspects
There area unit many types of robots; they are used in fully different.
1) Robots all have some quite mechanical construction, a frame, sort or kind designed to comprehend a particular task. as an example, a automaton designed to travel across serious dirt or mud, might use caterpillar tracks. The mechanical facet is sometimes the creator’s resolution to finishing the appointed task and addressing the physics of the atmosphere around it. sort follows operate.

Robotics or Artificial Intelligence
2) Robots have electrical parts that power and management the machinery. as an example, the automaton with caterpillar tracks would need some quite power to maneuver the hunter treads. That power comes inside the design of electricity, that is ready to wish to travel through a wire and originate from battery, a basic circuit. Even fuel hopped-up machines that get their power mainly from fuel still would like associate electrical current to begin out the combustion methodology that’s why most fuel hopped-up machines like cars, have batteries. The electrical facet of robots is utilized for movement, sensing and operation.
3) All robots contain some level of programming code. A program is but a automaton decides once or the simplest way to try and do one issue. inside the belt example, a automaton that has got to move across a muddy road might need the proper mechanical construction, and receive the proper amount of power from its battery, but would not go anywhere whereas not a program telling it to maneuver. Programs area unit the core essence of a automaton, it’s going to have marvelous mechanical and electrical construction, but if its program is poorly created its performance area unit really poor . There area unit three differing types of robotic programs: remote, applied science and hybrid. A automaton with remote programing options a pre-existent set of commands that it will exclusively perform if and once it receives a proof from an impact provide, usually somebody’s being with a remote management. it’s perhaps extra applicable to appear at devices controlled primarily by human commands as falling inside the discipline of automation rather than computing. Robots that use applied science act with their atmosphere on their own whereas not an impact provide, and would possibly verify reactions to things and problems they encounter victimization their pre-existent programming. Hybrid may well be a method of programming that features every AI and RC functions.
